On June 11, 2015, the IRS issued an announcement regarding the collaborative effort to combat identity theft and tax refund fraud. Thomson Reuters supports and is participating in this initiative.
Screen IDAuth is now available in the Electronic Filing folder in the 1040 application. In this screen, you can enter a driver’s license or state issued identification card number. This information will be included in the electronic file to assist the IRS in determining the identification of the taxpayer. Also, we have added a new tax organizer form to help gather this information from your clients.
Starting January 1, 2016, the IRS will require the use of Identity Protection Personal Identification Numbers (IP PINs) for all Social Security numbers with an IP PIN requirement, regardless of whether the Social Security number is entered for a primary, spouse or dependent/qualifying individual. Failure to include the IP PIN when issued in any of the required fields will result in the return being rejected. Enter the IP PIN for the Taxpayer and Spouse in Screen IDAuth located in the Electronic Filing folder. Enter the IP PIN for dependents in the statement dialog for the Dependent information field in Screen 1040 located in the General folder.
