Question

How do I populate Practice CS with my clients in UltraTax CS?

Answer

Practice CS has the ability to integrate with many CS Professional Suite applications. You can setup your Practice CS database with client info already available in UltraTax CS, saving your firm time and money.

How to populate clients from UltraTax CS – Follow these steps:

  • Set up in Practice CS
  1. In Practice CS, choose Setup > Firm > Preferences.
  2. Mark the Integrate this Firm with other solutions checkbox.

Note: If the checkbox is marked and also grayed out, it means that this option is already enabled. Proceed to the next step.

  • Set up in UltraTax CS
  1. If you have not previously used the Populate function, you must specify the location of the Practice CS integration folders. Choose Setup > User Preferences > File Locations.
  2. Mark the CS Practice Products option. Verify that Practice CS and Practice CS client data locations correctly point to the Shared Files location used during Step 1 of the initial Practice CS installation. Unless your firm uses a custom path, this will typically be WinCSIPractice CS and WinCSIPractice CS Data on your shared network drive (or local C: drive in a non-network installation). If the locations are not correct, click Modify to correct them.
  3. Click OK to exit the User Preferences dialog.
  • Process in UltraTax CS
  1. Choose Help > Repair > Misc.
  2. Under the Populate CS Applications section, select CS Practice Products and then click Populate.
  3. When the export process is complete, you may close UltraTax CS.

Question

How do I create my own custom format or modify an existing one to use in Practice CS?

Answer

Practice CS gives you the ability to copy, modify, and import existing formats. Copying an existing format is very easy and allows you to start with a format that has existing info, rather than creating it from scratch.

How to copy an existing format – Follow these steps:

  1. Choose Setup > Custom Formats to open the Custom Formats screen.
  2. In the Custom Formats list, expand the folders to review the formats available.
  3. Select an existing format on which to base the new document that you want to create.
  4. Right-click the selected format and choose Copy Format from the context menu. A copy of the format appears in the list, with a number in parenthesis after its name.
  5. Right-click the copy of the format you just created and choose Edit from the context menu. The format is now open and available for editing.
