How to Suppress Automatically Attached PDFs within 1040 E-Files in UltraTax CS

When you e-file using UltraTax CS, you can submit accurate electronic returns in an efficient manner. One way to efficiently file electronic returns is through the automatic attachment of certain worksheets. UltraTax CS1040 US automatically generates a PDF file attachment to the e-file for the following items if present in the return.

  • Partner’s basis worksheets
  • Shareholder’s basis worksheets
  • Net operating loss worksheets
  • Education savings account (ESA) worksheets
  • Qualified Tuition Program (QTP) worksheets
  • Farm income averaging worksheets 

Note:  UltraTax CS includes election statements selected to print on Screen Elect, located in the Elections folder (in 1040 input screen view), in the XML e-file record as regular (non-PDF) data. 

Suppressing Auto-generated PDF Attachments

If you want to suppress any of the attachments listed above on a client-by-client basis, mark the checkbox next to the applicable document on Screen 8453, located in the Electronic Filing folder, as illustrated below.

To suppress the automatically generated PDF file attachments for all clients not yet opened, choose Setup > 1040 Individual > Other Return Options, click the Other tab, mark the Suppress all auto-generated PDF attachments in the e-file (Screen 8453) checkbox. UltraTax CS will automatically mark the suppression fields in Screen 8453 the first time you open a client’s return. To include any of these PDF file attachments with the e-file, clear the applicable checkbox and re-create and transmit the e-file.
