Cape Girardeau, Missouri, has been collecting a 1% restaurant tax to fund tourism projects for the past 30 years. Should they place this topic on the ballot this November, they will have the option of either extending it, or letting it expire. In the past, the revenue has funded tourism projects in the area such as an aquatic center and a convention center. However, should it be extended in a November election, some residents are trying to direct the funds toward more wide ranging projects, such as a new police station. Others are hoping for a new sports facility.
