Connecticut Governor Proposing Sales Tax Increase

Indirect Tax, Sales and Use Tax April 8, 2011

Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy has proposed an increase to the state sales and use tax rate as part of his budget recommendations. His proposal would increase the rate from 6.0% to 6.35%, if it is ultimately put into effect. While this portion of the proposal has its supporters, opposition to this argues that further increasing the sales tax rate will drive consumers away resulting in less tax revenues. This will be an item to follow as the budget is worked out in the state legislature.
