Connecticut State Sales Tax Increase Proposed

Indirect Tax, Sales and Use Tax February 23, 2011

Connecticut’s Gov. Malloy has proposed to increase the state sales tax from 6 percent to 6.25 percent. Additionally, he would like to see the Tax Free Week in August ended and clothing under $50 taxed.  All of these proposals, if passed, would help close the looming budget gap in Connecticut.

Opponents of the increased taxes are concerned these tax increases unfairly affect families, especially the elimination of the Tax Free Week in August which has historically been the best time to buy new school clothes in Massachusetts.

We will continue to monitor this pending legislation.
