DeKalb City Council Declines to Act on a Sales-Tax Rebate Request

Indirect Tax, ONESOURCE, Sales and Use Tax July 26, 2012

The development of the former Lukulos building remains undetermined after a proposal to give a tax rebate to a potential developer was not passed by the DeKalb City council on Monday July 23rd.  Pearl Street Commercial, a developer who may remodel the building, was hoping to use the sales tax rebate as an incentive to attract a Baskin Robbins/Dunkin’ Donuts amongst other retailers to the property.  After declining to act on the proposal, DeKalb Mayor Kris Provlsen said the tax rebate is, “…pretty much a dead issue.”  Roger Hopkins, economic development consultant for the city, said Pearl Street Commercial was poised to purchase this property, but now, may walk away from the project entirely.
