Georgia No Longer Has Sales Tax on Vehicles

Effective March 1, 2013, sales tax on automobile purchases will no longer be levied in Georgia as the state is switching to a new “Title Ad Valorem Tax.” Under the new system, the tax will be levied at the time of the purchase, but on the title, with no need to pay when they renew the their tags on their birthday. Previously, sales taxes were not levied on automobile sales between individuals, but after March 1st, they will be subject to the 6.5% title ad valorem tax.
