Hawaii House Proposes Sales Tax Holiday

Indirect Tax, Sales and Use Tax February 28, 2011

A bill has been introduced in the Hawaii House that would create a holiday from the General Excise Tax on school supplies costing less than $15 per item, computers, computer software, and computer supplies of less than $1,500 per purchase, clothes of less than $100 per item and books of less than $50 per item. The exemption would apply to purchases made  beginning on Wednesday of the last full week of July and ending in 5 days on the following Sunday.

If enacted HB 364 would be effective July 2012 — Just in time for summer vacation in case you would like to buy your pencils in paradise.
