Idaho Voters Consider Allowing Cities To Approve Local Sales Tax

Indirect Tax, ONESOURCE, Sales and Use Tax January 24, 2012

Backers of the proposal to allow individual cities to determine whether or not to have a local option sales tax in addition to the state sales tax are already collecting signatures to get the proposal on the November ballot.  Opponents see this as just another tax increase and option sales taxes have not historically been popular within the state.  A few Idaho cities already have a local option sales tax but those are in resort towns with less than 10,000 people.  Supporters of the idea believe that this is a way to reduce property taxes.
