Illinois Senate Searches For New Ways to Raise Funds

Indirect Tax, ONESOURCE, Sales and Use Tax March 5, 2012

An Illinois club owner has voiced strong opposition to a Senate bill that aims to generate revenue by targeting the strip club business.  This new tax, which would charge owners $5 a head for every customer through the door, regardless of if they are paying or not, would go towards rape crisis centers and violence prevention.  VCG Holdings President, and owner of 5 clubs, claims that this new fee would force him to shut the door to 3 of his clubs, as well as 30 of 40 across the state.  He also sees an impact to the food and drink suppliers should these clubs be shut down, and more importantly, the patrons who would choose to stay home or seek entertainment elsewhere.
