The state of Missouri voted down Amendment 7 which would have increased the sales and use tax by 0.75% to help fund transportation projects. The transportation projects would have involved work on state and local highways, and bridges as well as on unsafe infrastructure. It was estimated that Amendment 7 would have raised $480 million annually over the next 10 years. Opponents of the tax argued that it would burden lower income state residents.
