NAACP and Tea Party Fight Sales Tax Increase

Indirect Tax, ONESOURCE, Sales and Use Tax July 30, 2012

Georgia voters are being asked to approve a 1% sales tax increase to raise $8.5 billion dollars for enhancing roads and public transportation over the next decade.  This plan will be considered by voters in 10 counties in Georgia on July 31st.  The area impacted by the ballot measure includes the city of Atlanta, who’s traffic is amongst the worst in the country.  Although they agree something needs to be done to address the traffic, both members of tea party and representatives from the NAACP are voicing opposition to this plan to address concerns about traffic and local transit.
