Shelby County Mayor Vetoes Sales Tax Increase For New School System

Indirect Tax, ONESOURCE, Sales and Use Tax August 28, 2012

The Shelby County Mayor, Mark Luttrell, has vetoed a resolution by the Shelby County Commission to raise the county sales tax by 0.5%.  The county commission can vote to override his veto.  Residents of Arlington, Bartlett, Collierville, Germantown and Lakeland (communities in Shelby county) have already have voted to raise their sales taxes. They hope to create their own municipal school systems.
