South Carolina: Charleston County to Impose Sales Tax

Indirect Tax, Sales and Use Tax January 27, 2011

The South Carolina Department of Revenue has announced that beginning March 1, 2011, Charleston County will impose a 1% education capital improvement sales and use tax in addition to the 1% local option tax and 0.5% local transportation tax currently imposed.

The Department has published an information letter to answer questions regarding the new tax. In addition the letter provides quite a bit of information regarding South Carolina Sales Taxes in general. The information letter (IL011-1) should be available on the State’s website shortly.
