Tennessee Tax Holiday for Seniors

Indirect Tax, ONESOURCE, Sales and Use Tax May 9, 2011

A pair of  bills currently moving through the Tennessee Legislature would add a little shine to the state’s senior citizen’s golden years  by granting them an annual tax holiday starting in 2012.  The bills, HB1690/SB1378 would create a one-time sales tax holiday for senior citizens between the first Friday of March 2012 and the following Sunday and would also create a recurring sales tax holiday for senior citizens each year between the first Friday in October and the following Sunday.

The holiday would cover a wide variety of products including everything from support hose to smart phones.

These bills are currently in committee.
