UPDATE TO:  Amazon Bill Status Roundup

Indirect Tax, Sales and Use Tax, Sales Tax Nexus June 8, 2011

This is a quick update to the status of the “Amazon” bills that were mentioned in my blog back in May.

Arkansas: SB 0738 was passed on March 31st and will take effect on October 24th, 2011. (previously the effective date was given as June 9th.)

California: AB 153 passed the House and is currently in the Senate. SB 234 passed the Senate and has been sent to the Assembly. California’s Legislative session doesn’t end until September 9th so there is still plenty of time for these bills to move forward.

Minnesota: The 2011 Session in Minnesota ended without the passage of SF458 on May 23rd.

Rhode Island: HB 5115 is actually a bill to repeal the State’s Amazon Law. HB 5115 has been in committee since January 25th. On May 17th the committee recommended that the bill be held for further study.

Tennessee: HB 1912 and SB 1489 did not pass before the 2011 session adjourned on May 21st.

Texas: On May 31, 2011, Texas Governor Rick Perry vetoed legislation which provided that online subsidiaries or affiliates of retailers with stores or other facilities in Texas would have nexus with the state.
