Washington County School Boards Considering Sales Tax

Indirect Tax, ONESOURCE, Sales and Use Tax September 6, 2011

Washington County and Johnson City school board members are asking voters to approve a referendum to increase their current 9.5% sales tax rate a quarter percent to 9.75% to avoid cuts, as supporters claim.  Others view any tax increase at this time as a negative.  Currently Washington County spends less per student than every county in eastern Tennessee, except for Greene County.  If approved, this tax may go into effect as early as March.
