Aircraft Freeport Extension

A law was recently passed enabling the governing body of a taxing unit to extend the date that aircraft-related freeport goods must be transported outside Texas to 730 days after the person acquired or imported the property. This extension is effective as of January 1, 2014.

Tax Refund Applied to Delinquent Property

H709 allows taxing units to apply a property owner’s tax refund to a previously delinquent tax year for that same property. This is effective beginning January 1, 2014. New Allowance for Mailing Tax Documents and Payments

Taxpayers can now use common or contract carriers to send payments or other documents to a taxing unit and be considered timely as long as the package’s postage charges are prepaid and the shipping date is prior to or on the due date. The package must show the shipping date, or taxpayers must provide proof that it was shipped out on that specified date, in order to not incur tax penalties. This amendment is effective 6/14/2013.
