While it was a quiet month for indirect tax changes worldwide one very noteworthy change went into effect in China.
On 1 August 2013, the VAT Pilot Program, which was previously limited to 12 regions, went nationwide. The Pilot Program was implemented last year beginning with Shanghai and followed by 11 more provinces and municipalities including Beijing and Tianjin. Along with the geographic expansion, the program was also expanded to include the film, radio, and television industries. More industries are expected to be included as soon as the end of this year.
