Montana Gives Property Tax Relief To Those Affected By Wildfires

Blog, ONESOURCE, ONESOURCE Property Tax September 12, 2013

The Montana Department of Revenue encourages Montana property owners and businesses whose homes, outbuildings, forestland, buildings, or equipment are damaged or destroyed during wildfire season to apply for property tax relief. Tax relief may also be provided to property owners or businesses whose assets are partially or completely destroyed by wildfire and are no longer in working condition.

To apply for property tax relief, taxpayers need to complete Form AB-25 by December 31, 2013.

Additionally, any property owner whose standing timber has been destroyed by wildfire in 2013 will be granted a reduction in assessed value for twenty years beginning in 2014. To receive this reduction, taxpayers will need to complete Form AB-26 at any time during the tax year following the loss.

Both the AB-25 and AB-26 forms can be found here: http://revenue.mt.gov/formsandresources/downloadable-forms/property-tax.mcpx.
