California Use Tax – “Good for you, Good for California”

Blog, Indirect Tax, ONESOURCE, Sales and Use Tax July 30, 2014

The California Board of Equalization (BOE) has continued their focus on educating consumers about their use tax obligation.  The BOE Website  gives an overview of use tax with examples of when the tax applies.  There are several videos related to use tax that discuss foreign travel, online gift buying, remembering when to pay use tax, and FAQ.

California estimates that they lose $1 billion every year in uncollected tax.  The site reinforces that use tax helps to fund various public services within California and proper payment of tax could fund 11,000 teachers or 7,000 police officers, or 6,000 firefighters.
