This summer is proving to be a busy one for global indirect tax changes including those listed below.
July Rate Changes
The following rate changes went into effect on the dates noted below.
Canada – Manitoba
Although the legislation has not been officially approved the general sales tax rate increased to 8% from 7% effective 1 July 2013.
The Council of Ministers announced on 26 June 2013 that the scheduled VAT rate increase to 22% from 21% that was to be effective 1 July 2013 will be postponed.
The standard rate of VAT was increased to 19% from 17% effective 1 July 2013.
The Government of Pakistan has approved its budget which contained an increase in the standard rate from 16% to 17% effective 13 June 2013.
The government of Slovenia increased the standard and reduced VAT rates from 20% to 22%, and 8.5% to 9.5% on 1 July 2013.
European Union – Croatia
The European Union expanded on 1 July when Croatia officially became its 28th member state.
