The IRS has announced its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs are currently recruiting volunteers for the upcoming filing season. (IR 2023-195)

As described by the agency, the programs serve populations such as rural taxpayers, limited English speakers and senior citizens. “No experience is necessary to become a VITA or TCE volunteer,” the IRS said, adding that “free specialized training is provided by the agency.”

Available positions “go beyond tax preparation,” the IRS stressed. They include:

  • Interpreters
  • Greeters
  • Quality reviewers
  • Marketing specialists
  • Instructors
  • Computer specialists

Volunteers are given the option to participate at both in-person and virtual sites, often with flexible hours.
