The Idaho State Tax Commission (Commission) has issued the inflation-adjusted personal income tax rate bracket schedule figures that apply for tax year 2022. The Commission adjusts the rate bracket amounts annually according to statutory formulas based on the U.S. urban consumer price index. The index formula factor for 2022 is 1.662. The index formula factor for 2021 was 1.588. (2022 Individual Income Tax Rate Schedule, Idaho State Tax Comm’n., 01/01/2023.)
Tax rate brackets. Single individuals: For tax year 2022, the Idaho income tax imposed on single individuals is calculated as follows:
- if Idaho taxable income is less than $1,662, the tax is 1% of that amount;
- if the taxable income is at least $1,662 but less than $4,987, the tax is $16.62 plus 3% of the amount of $1,662;
- if the taxable income is at least $4,987 but less than $8,311, the tax is $116.36 plus 4.5% of the amount over $4,987; and
- if the taxable income is $8,311 or more, the tax is $265.96 plus 6% of the amount over $8,311.
Married individuals: For tax year 2022, the Idaho income tax imposed on married individuals is calculated as follows:
- if Idaho taxable income is less than $3,324, the tax is 1% of that amount;
- if the taxable income is at least $3,324 but less than $9,974, the tax is $33.24 plus 3% of the amount over $3,324;
- if the taxable income is at least $9,974 but less than $16,622, the tax is $232.72 plus 4.5% of the amount over $9,974; and
- if the taxable income is $16,622 or more, the tax is $531.92 plus 6% of the amount over $16,622.
