Many firms start with Essentials and expand usage or upgrade users as needs grow.
- AI-generated tax answers grounded in authoritative tax content, with citations so you can see where answers come from.
- Each user receives up to 20 citation-backed tax answers per week grounded in Checkpoint content. Document uploads, summaries, and standard AI conversations are available without affecting this allowance.

No Checkpoint subscription is required. CoCounsel Tax Essentials uses Checkpoint content behind the scenes to ground answers in authoritative tax information, but it does not include access to the Checkpoint Edge research library. If you already have a Checkpoint subscription, CoCounsel can link to content within your existing subscription level. If you don't, you'll still receive citation-backed answers without needing direct Checkpoint access. Note that CoCounsel Tax Essentials is designed to complement existing tax tools, not replace them — some advanced Checkpoint features such as deep research tools, eForms, and state comparison charts are not included.
Yes. You can add the Tax Research module to unlock deeper research capabilities and the full CoCounsel Tax experience. The add-on is priced per user, so only the users who need advanced research require it. CoCounsel Tax Essentials is currently available for tax workflows only; audit and accounting versions are not yet available.
