    Denise Lugo is an Editor at Thomson Reuters, who writes about the business impacts of accounting rules. Denise’s specialty is coverage of accounting standards generated by the nation’s two main accounting rulemaking bodies: the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), which are stationed in Norwalk, Connecticut.

    Denise also writes about accounting rules issued by the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), the London-based body that develops international financial reporting standards (IFRS) for more than 140 jurisdictions worldwide.

    Denise has been writing accounting news for more than 12 years and has about 20 years as a newsmaker, including in niches such as investment banking and telecommunications.

    Pilar Garcia, CPA is an Executive Editor at Thomson Reuters. She is a Certified Public Accountant in New York and New Jersey, and has 17 years of accounting and auditing experience. Pilar is a former senior manager in a Big Four accounting firm. She also worked in this Big Four’s national office, specializing in financial reporting and SEC matters. Pilar has experience in a number of areas, including revenue recognition, business combinations, fair value measurements, and financial reporting under US GAAP and IFRS.

    She has participated on panels discussing technical subjects, such as SEC reporting, accounting for income taxes, and the new accounting models for revenue recognition and leases under US GAAP. Pilar has published materials on the new expected credit loss standard under US GAAP and accounting for income taxes, including the effects of tax reform on financial reporting.

    Pilar is a graduate of Rutgers Business School and the Newark College of Arts and Sciences.

    Tobi Carter Richards is a Tax & Accounting Senior Specialist Editor at Thomson Reuters, where she serves as in-house SEC expert with a focus on compliance, corporate governance and financial reporting. She has published a number of materials on the foregoing, including coverage of tax reform effects and COVID-19 impact on public company disclosures.

    Prior to joining Thomson Reuters, Tobi was a transactional associate in the Corporate and Securities Law Practice Group at Certilman Balin Adler & Hyman, LLP for nearly five years. Before practicing at Certilman Balin, she was an attorney for more than two years in the Securities Litigation Group at Greenberg Traurig, L.L.P. Prior to that, she was Associate Counsel for two years at Oppenheimer & Co. Inc.

    Tobi earned her J.D. from New York University School of Law in 2001, where she served as Senior Staff Editor of the Environmental Law Journal. In 1998, she graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a B.A., cum laude, in Legal Studies. Admitted to practice in New York, Tobi is a member of the ABA, as well as its Business Law Section.
