Big tech files opposition to Trump’s ban

Apple, Google, Twitter and Microsoft are among nearly 100 tech companies who, Monday morning, filed a legal brief opposing U.S. President Donald Trump’s immigration ban.

The brief says Trump’s executive order represents a sudden shift in the rules governing entry into the U.S. and inflicts harm on American companies.

It also points out that immigrants or their children founded more than 200 of the companies on the Fortune 500 list.

Trump’s immigration ban faces a crucial legal hurdle on Monday afternoon that could determine whether he can push through with the order that temporarily bars entry of people from seven mostly Muslim countries.

A federal appeals court in San Francisco will hear from the Justice Department on why the travel ban should be reinstated.

The court is expected to act quickly and a decision either way may ultimately result in the case reaching the U.S. Supreme Court.
